Georgia Beaches
Georgia beaches may not be as famous as the beaches of California, Miami, or even the Carolinas to the north, but beaches in Georgia can still provide a lovely escape from busy city life. Particularly in the summer, Georgia beaches are warm and quiet, and a nice collection of hotels and spa resorts can be found on the shores of the beaches in Georgia. Many travelers may or may not know that there is a nice collection of islands located just off the coast of Georgia. The nicest Georgia beaches will be found on these islands.
St. Simons Island
St. Simons Island features two white-sand public beaches, two of the loveliest beaches in Georgia. The Massingale Park Beach is the most popular, with a picnic area, bathhouse, and even an on-duty lifeguard from June 1 until Labor Day. Parking and fishing are both free at Massingale, and drinking is allowed. The second beach on the island is the Coast Guard Station Beach, which also has a bathhouse and showers, as well as on-duty lifeguards and permitted drinking. Although Georgia beach rentals are mostly located near Massingale Park, there are also some nice Georgia beach rentals on the Coast Guard side of the island, as well.
Jekyll Island
Jekyll Island is a larger island, with three public beaches and a host of Georgia beach rentals available throughout the summer. Georgia beach vacations on Jekyll Island will not come with lifeguards, but there is plenty to do off of the coast. The St. Andrew Picnic Area is the southern most beach on the island and the most popular, with picnicking spots and showers available. South Dunes Beach and Central Dunes beach are also great places for Georgia beach vacations, both have showers and dunes for running about on.
Callaway Gardens
Callaway Gardens is a popular spot for Georgia beach vacations, actually features the largest inland man-made white sand beach anywhere in the world. There is a center for children with an enormous playground, along with miniature gold, badminton, and riverboats. The area is chalk full of things to do and see, and although the beach is man-made, it remains one of the nicest in the area.
Although many travelers may not think of beaches when they think about Georgia, there are actually a lovely collection of beaches that can be enjoyed in Georgia throughout the summer. Beach rental homes are a poular way to spend a week or an entire summer. Many locals and visitors alike rent beach cabins for a get away that feels more like a home at the beach. However you decide to enjoy Georgia, a trip to the beach is a great way to spend the day.
