One such historical area is the site of the Cotton States and International Exposition of 1895, which was held in Piedmont Park. Visitors from around the world came to the site, including President Grover Cleveland, who presided over the opening of the World’s Fair in October of 1895. Although multiple granite buildings were constructed for the fair, the buildings were dismantled and sold to pay off the day incurred to the city by the fair. Today, the site of the fair is mostly open grass, although it is an interesting site to visit.
