With 4-7 days to fill add the above attractions to another of many possible Albuquerque itineraries that might take you away from the heart of Old Town. Travel westward to the Petroglyph National Monument archaeological site where 17,000 petroglyphs were chipped away over 1,000 years into the rocky escarpment. This can be a full day trip in itself if your visit is absorbed by all the details. A drive to the Santa Fe area is well worth it and opens up a wealth of things to do. Take your time and tour the city. A short drive from Santa Fe are the beautiful Jemez Mountains. Rent a cabin for a night or two, tour the hot springs that dot that area and take a scenic mountains trail drive. Tour companies offer different Albuquerque suggested itineraries

7+ Days

If possible try to take more than one scenic drive as the areas landscape is what makes New Mexico the gem it is held up to be.
