Centennial Olympic Park, llocated in Atlanta, Georgia, is one of the favorite lasting additions to the city of Atlanta for the 1996 Summer Olympic Games. Built specifically for the games, the Centennial Olympic Park is covers an area of more than 20 acres, and is filled with memorials to the games, as well as other interesting historical monuments. Centennial Olympic Park was first carved out of an area of downtown Atlanta that was once less than beautiful, but today the park is one of the nicest urban parks in the country.

Events and parks in Atlanta certainly include the Centennial Park. The park was closed in 1996, after the games, and reopened in 1998 with improvements that made the park ideal for permanent use. Multiple concert stages can be found at the park, and event and parks in Atlanta include time spent at Centennial Park. The park features an excellent visitor center, located on International Boulevard, which is in the southwest corner of the park. Here, you will find a wealth of information about the park, including information about where to find the commemorative brick with your name on it, if you purchased such a thing back in 1996. At the visitor center, you will also find information about events and parks in Atlanta throughout the city.

One of the most popular features of this park is the enormous park fountain in the shape of interlocking Olympic Rings. Located in the middle of a plaza, the fountain is the major hub of the park, and in the summer travelers will find hordes of kids and adults cooling off in the jets. You can also wait for the entertaining combination of music and fountain action, complete with lights for viewing, something akin to the Bellagio Fountain Show of Las Vegas. Best of all, the fountain show is always free.

Cultural events and parks in Atlanta come to a head at Centennial Park. Every Tuesday and Thursday from April until September, “Music at Noon” brings music from local artists to the park to be enjoyed by the public, totally free of charge. These types of cultural events and parks in Atlanta have grown to be a local favorite. Travelers will find many locals and visitors alike enjoying the music during the day while eating lunch or simply relaxing. Cultural events and parks in Atlanta also celebrate cultural and national holidays. The Fourth of July celebration at Centennial Park is truly fantastic, and draws hundreds of viewers each year to enjoy the fireworks display.

So, after checking out some of the other great attractions in Atlanta, such as the World of Coca Cola, the High Museum of Art, or the Zoo Atlanta, be sure to stop by Centennial Park for a look at this unique outdoor playground.
