Georgia Wineries

Georgia is known for many things, including its spectacular Blue Ridge Mountains, historic sites, and Southern charm, and now earning a place on the list are the exceptional Georgia wineries. Vacationers can enjoy tasting varieties of Georgia wine at the numerous wineries and vineyards located throughout southern, central, and north Georgia.

Georgia wineries in the southern portion of the state include Chesser Island Vineyards in Folkston and Still Pond Vineyards in Arlington near Albany. Perry Vineyards in Nashville and Paulk Vineyards in Wray have vineyards only, however, and are not open for tasting. In the central section of the state Georgia wine is enjoyed through grapes grown at Ison's Nursery and Vineyard in Brooks and Bottoms Vineyard in Concord. Wineries include Coursons Winery in Sparta, the 1810 House & Winery in Thomson, Tilford Winery in Kathleen, Meinhardt Winery in Statesboro, Butterducks Estate Winery in Guyton, and Fox Vineyard in Social Circle near Atlanta.

More than 40 Georgia wineries and vineyards overall are located in the state, with the majority located in the northern area. Vacationers visiting north Georgia can visit and tour several wineries located along the Georgia wine trail that begins in Dahlonega and ends in Clayton. Of the nine locations along the trail, eight have both wineries and vineyards, and one is a vineyard only.

The Georgia wine trail begins with the Montaluce Winery & Estates followed by Wolf Mountain Vineyards & Winery, Three Sisters Vineyards & Winery, Frogtown Cellars, and Blackstock Vineyards all located near Dahlonega. Habersham Winery and two vineyards, Serenity Cellars and Becca Farms & Vineyards are near Helen. The trail ends in Clayton with Persimmon Creek Vineyards and Tiger Mountain Vineyards.

A side trip to the city of Helen is a step into a replica of a Bavarian Alpine city. Gingerbread architecture, arts and crafts, handcrafted items, specialty shops, and German restaurants make for an interesting day of sightseeing. Nearby Unicoi State Park and Brasstown Bald offer panoramic views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Additional wineries and vineyards are Crane Creek in Young Harris, Sharp Mountain Winery in Jasper, and the DeBarge and Millstone Vineyards and Georgia Wines, all located in Ringgold.

A popular winery in Georgia located along the trail is the Three Sisters Vineyards & Winery located near on 184 acres in Lumpkin County between Dahlonega and Cleveland. The winery was the first one established in the county, and every June, Three Sisters celebrates its annual wine celebration with samples from wineries around the state. Bluegrass music, homemade crafts, folk art, food, raffles and silent auctions, and wagon rides through the vineyard.

Another option for vacationers is a tour of a winery in Georgia scheduled through local tour companies. If you're staying in the Atlanta area, several tours include transportation to and from the wineries along the Georgia wine trail. Guests enjoy a scenic drive one-hour drive from the city, wine tasting at each location, food, and entertainment when available.
