Austin Tourism
Austin tourism offers something for everyone, and while summer is the most popular travel season on the whole, there really isn't a bad time to visit this exciting capital city. Spring is arguably the best time to go to Austin Texas, as the weather is idyllic and the wildflowers are blooming, while the fall also offers excellent weather, not to mention reduced crowds. Winter is considered to be the off season when it comes to Austin travel, and good deals on flights and hotel rooms help to make it a good time to visit for the budget traveler.
When trying to decide when to go to Austin, there are a number of things to consider, with weather being one of the most obvious. Austin enjoys excellent weather on the whole, and while it gets hot and humid here in the summer, it won't be hard to cool off thanks to area lakes such as Lake Austin and Lake Travis. When Austin area locals and tourists aren't swimming in the regional lakes during the summer months, they can often be found at the Zilker Park Barton Springs Pool. Many of the city's hotels offer seasonal swimming pools that can also be refreshing when it gets hot outside, and you can always venture off to an area water park.
Highs in the mid-90s are the norm during the summer months in Austin, with May and September also seeing temperatures in the 90s with relative frequency. In the winter, the highs average around 60 degrees, with the lows averaging in the mid-40s. Winter cold snaps are common, so bringing a coat can be a good idea. In the spring and fall, the humidity is under control and a temperature of around 80 degrees is the norm during the day. In addition to being the warmest season, summer is also the driest. Winter and spring are when you can expect the most rain, though it stays relatively dry in Central Texas throughout the year. Snow can fall in the winter, though it is rare. You definitely won't find any ski resorts in the nearby Texas Hill Country.
Good weather isn't the only reason why spring is arguably the best time to go to Austin Texas. The spring season is also known for its festivals, and Austin tourism revolves heavily around them. SXSW is the most renowned spring festival, and it is largely responsible for making March the most popular Austin travel month of them all. Hotel rooms go fast when this multifaceted music, film, and interactive media festival is going on, and the streets in hot spots like the 6th Street Entertainment District are often filled with people who are having a great time. The fall gives the spring a run for its money when it comes to the best time to go to Austin Texas as it too offers great weather and some renowned festivals of its own. October is an especially good festival month, as it is when Austin City Limits and the Austin Film Festival are held.
Austin tourism revolves largely around festivals and events, with live music performances being especially easy to come by. Austin is the Live Music Capital of the World, and you can expect to catch a concert of some kind on any given day, regardless of the season. Festivals and live music aren't the only reasons why Austin travel is so popular, however. Outdoor recreational opportunities abound in the area, with the nearby Texas Hill Country being a fine destination for hiking, fishing, camping, and any other number of things. For families with kids, summer might just be the best to go to Austin Texas, as this is when area attractions such as Six Flags Fiesta and SeaWorld are running at full steam.
