If you plan on taking an Alaska hiking trip, you should be advised that it is not for the faint-hearted. The majority of the trails you will find when hiking in Alaska will be unpaved and unmarked. Many are far from the roads, and only accessible by helicopter or boat. However, do not let this information discourage you. The Resurrection Pass in the Kenai Mountains entices visitors with a 38-mile all season Alaska hiking route. This trail is accessible through the Kenai Mountains that are located near the city of Anchorage.
There is one minor caveat. If you are planning an Alaska hiking trip to this area, the high altitude environment might still be holding on to some snow throughout June. For this reason, it behooves you to carry a pair of snowshoes if you plan on taking an Alaska hiking trip in June.
Fairbanks also provides some excellent terrain for hiking in Alaska. In fact, The White Mountain National Recreation area is located just north of the town. While the trails are somewhat steep, they provide an exciting challenge for anyone who is interested in an athletic Alaska hiking trip.
At the Chena State Recreation Area, there are a number of trails that have been developed for hiking in Alaska. Rock climbers enjoy the solid granite that is found in this area. At the end of a strenuous Alaska hiking day, you can relax and enjoy the hot springs at the Chena Hot Springs Resort.
Anyone who is interested in Alaska hiking adventures should take a trip to Denali National Park. Along the way, you will encounter Dall sheep, grizzly bears, caribou, moose, and gray wolves. Bring bear proof containers for your food.
Glacier Bay National Park provides other types of Alaska Hiking adventures. However, this backcountry Alaska hiking experience is only accessible by boat or floatplane. The Forest Loop is the easiest trail in this area. The one-mile loop begins at the Glacier Bay Lodge and ends at the dock. If your Alaska hiking trip is in August, you will find that blueberries are abundant along the trails in this area.
When planning any types of Alaska hiking adventures, keep in mind that the weather conditions can be fickle. Summer can turn into winter at the drop of a hat, so dress accordingly.
