Alberta is characterized by frontier spirit and urban sophistication with the Rocky Mountains as a backdrop. The cities of the province have a style all their own—Calgary continues to be a favorite of cowboys, while Edmonton has an international flair. Beyond the cities, you'll find wide-open spaces that invite adventure, mountainside resorts, and authentic little villages that provide a warm welcome to visitors. Unlike the flat prairies of Saskatchewan and the rocky coasts of Nova Scotia, this province offers a mix of landscapes and settings. No matter where you choose to visit, Alberta Canada will provide a spectacular setting for your getaway to Canada.
The capital city of Edmonton is perhaps best known for its biggest attraction—the West Edmonton Mall. You'll find so much more here than a few restaurants and some department stores because this is one-stop destination for fun, shopping, and dining. There's a mix of favorites stores, unique shops, and some retailers with only one Alberta location, along with a menu of 100-plus restaurants. The opportunities for fun include an indoor water park and amusement park, complete with a giant wave pool and looping roller coaster. You'll also find family-friendly adventures with miniature golf, the ice rink, and Sea Life Cavern's aquarium exhibits.
Beyond the mall, you will find much to explore in Edmonton, Alberta Canada. An expansive art gallery opened at the beginning of 2010, adding to the collection of 60 museums and major attractions. Families really dig their time at the Royal Alberta Museum, especially its dinosaur collection. No matter when you visit, chances are good you'll arrive during a festival as Edmonton is a city that really likes to celebrate.
Like Winnipeg, Manitoba, to the east, the city hosts cultural festivals that are a lot of fun, too. The summertime fringe theater festival is the largest outside of Edmonton, where it all began. In June, the International Children's Festival brings together artists, live music, and more fun.
Calgary, the other big city in Alberta, is also known for its festivals. The biggest event on the calender arrives in July with the opening of the Calgary Stampede. The rodeo, midway games, and concerts bring droves of happy visitors to this city. Western heritage is on display all year, as Calgary is a city that exemplifies the spirit of the new West. You'll still see plenty of cowboys around, along with chances to visit farms, shop for boots, and taste some of the heartiest food north of Texas.
The city is also home to an eclectic dining scene, with something for ever taste. You'll also find fantastic shopping opportunities (free from a provincial sales tax) and busy stages hosting live performances.
Many travelers know Calgary as the gateway to the Canadian Rockies; its airport is a hub for mountain vacations, and transportation is readily available between the city and the spectacular outdoor settings. Whether you crave adventure or you want to see something out of the ordinary, the entire province of Alberta Canada is like an outdoor playground. Offering four seasons filled with adventure, the Rockies flank the western edge of the province, stretching into British Columbia.
Two more amazing highlights in Alberta include Banff National Park and Jasper National Park—home to wide array of lodges and recreational opportunities no matter what the thermometer says. Many of the resorts are found in the charming hamlet of Lake Louise, offering some of the best powder skiing around. While you're exploring the Rockies, don't miss the chance to experience a glacier tour, a fantastic cap to your Albertan adventure.
Alberta Canada is a diverse and amazing province to visit and no matter where you travel, there will be amazing cities, outdoor attractions, and things to do.
