Cypress Mountain is an exceedingly popular ski resort in West Vancouver situated in Cypress Provincial Park. It only takes around 30 minutes to drive to Cypress Mountain Ski Resort where you will find nearly 50 alpine ski runs that range from beginner and intermediate to highly advanced. Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are also available, but it is the downhill variety of skiing that keeps people coming back time and again to this amazing area. And when the skiing ceases, hiking Cypress Mountain becomes the order of the day. As with so many other of the outlying areas of Vancouver, West Vancouver is a gorgeous geographical terrain that features everything from mountains and forested trails, to waterways and the sea. Cypress Mountain even played host to several events that took place at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games.

The name of the Cypress Mountain Ski Resort may at first be confusing to some folks and rightfully so. This is because there happens to be no Cypress Mountain in the area. Rather, the name Cypress Mountain is derived from the valley that lies between Mt. Strachan and Black Mountain that is filled with Yellow Cedar Trees. The area between the two mountains upon which the ski resort’s two downhill runs are built is referred to as the Cypress Bowl. Cypress Provincial Park is a breathtaking and expansive park system that features miles of trails and forested land with streams and rivers and an impressive array of birds and animals. Cypress Provincial Park is contained almost entirely within West Vancouver and is a veritable paradise for lovers of nature and outdoors activities. You can go hiking, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, or whatever else your heart desires. It is difficult to be disappointed with anything you do in the area, as the sheer beauty of the landscape all around you is all encompassing and thrilling. Sometimes hiking Cypress Mountain Park can be just as exhilarating as skiing it.

When you ski Cypress Mountain, you will have a wide range of amenities at your disposal. After all, you cannot very well host the Winter Olympic Games without having a pretty solid handle on making the resort a choice destination for all who visit. There are high-speed, dual and quad chairlifts, a terrain park called Bell Power Park, and an impressive lodge where you can relax after a long day of hitting the slopes. You will know after you finished that you have just skied some prime hills and that this is no place to mess around. Although, there are plenty of accommodations for children and beginners, making it possible for families to make a full day of fun out of a trip to Cypress Mountain Ski Resort, the advanced skier will not go home disappointed. Quite the opposite, the advanced skier will find that there are as many challenging runs at Cypress Mountain as there are in any other part of West Vancouver or the surrounding areas, besides perhaps Whistler to the north. Whether you are skiing or hiking Cypress Mountain, or simply taking your crew for a nature adventure into Cypress Provincial Park, you are sure to have a wonderful and memorable time.
