Daytona Beach fishing offers anglers of all levels a range of experiences to choose from. For serious anglers, booking a full day excursion with one of the fishing charters in Daytona Beach is a good way to go. If your idea of fishing in Daytona Beach doesn't involve renting a boat, you can always fish from a pier or do some shore fishing. One of the advantages of booking a trip with the fishing charters in Daytona Beach is the fact that you won't need a license. You also won't need a license if you plan on doing some pier fishing.
When looking to go fishing in Daytona Beach, you can try to snag some marlin and sailfish while deep sea fishing on the Atlantic Ocean, or you can attempt to catch some trout and large reds in the usually smooth and calm waters of the Halifax River. One of the best places to hook up with fishing charters in Daytona Beach is Ponce Inlet, which is actually a small town that is due south of Daytona Beach Shores. There are a few marinas in Ponce Inlet, and as such, many of the local charter companies dock their ships here. In addition to marlin and sailfish, those who go deep sea fishing in Daytona Beach with a charter company can also hope to catch some red snapper, some king mackerel, and some grouper. As you head out to sea in Ponce Inlet, you can look back on the Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse, which is the second-tallest lighthouse in the state. Whether you book a charter or use your own private boat, deep sea fishing in Daytona Beach is sure to please.
When you're not heading out to sea to fish in Daytona Beach, you might head to one of the area piers to see what you can catch. The Daytona Beach Pier, which is also known as the Main Street Pier, is one of the area piers that you might look to fish off. There is a bait and tackle shop on the Daytona Beach Pier if you need fishing equipment, and among the species that you can hope to snag include whiting, bluefish, and even tarpon. Like the Daytona Beach Pier, the Sunglow Pier in Daytona Beach Shores is an excellent place to go fishing, partly because of the fact that you won't need a license. In addition to a bait and tackle shop, the Sunglow Pier in Daytona Beach Shores also features fish cleaning areas that can come in handy if you manage to catch something. Among the fish species that you can hope to snag when fishing off the pier include trout, whiting, flounder, and Spanish mackerel, among others. Fishing off of these piers can be enjoyed year round, and if offers an economical alternative to the more costly fishing charters.
Surf fishing is another kind of Daytona Beach fishing that you can enjoy, and if you're really up for trying it out, then you'll want to make a break for the Canaveral National Seashore. In addition to boasting some of the finest beaches in Florida, the Canaveral National Seashore is one of the best places in the state to go surf fishing. Playalinda Beach makes for a good spot to try some surf fishing when visiting Canaveral, and if you're lucky, you'll snag plenty of whiting, pompano, and bluefish, among other species. As for a good spot to fish in the Halifax River, you can head north of Daytona Beach to Ormond Beach, which is where Tomoka State Park is found.
Like the Canaveral National Seashore, Tomoka State Park is a good Daytona Beach fishing and camping destination. When you're not checking out the Tomoka Mounds and Middens during your time in the park, you can always see what the waters of the Halifax River have to offer. There is a boat launch at the park if you need it, and you can also take to the water in a canoe if you prefer. Some of the more brackish waters in the park are known to offer up catfish, sea trout, and redfish, so you might try them as well when looking to enjoy some fishing in Daytona Beach.
