One of the best things about the Daytona Beach International Airport (DBIA) is the fact that it can be found just four miles inland from the coast. This means that once you arrive on your flight, you can get to your beachfront hotel in no time at all. Even if you aren't staying at a beachfront hotel, the trip from the airport to your room or vacation rental shouldn't take long. The Daytona Beach Airport earned the international tag in 1992, which is when it added a new, two-level terminal and extended its two runways. Today, the Daytona Beach International Airport boasts an international terminal, a larger domestic terminal that features six gates, and three runways. It is a relatively small airport, which helps to make it a pleasant place to fly into.
The airport in Daytona Beach is very user-friendly, which has a lot to do with its small size. While it doesn't feature a wide variety of restaurants and shops, you can break for a meal once you arrive or hit one of the gift shops to pick up a magazine, some candy, a t-shirt, and any number of other things. Should you be coming to town to see a race at the Daytona International Speedway, you might be surprised to know that the Daytona Beach Airport is right next door to the track. Unless you fancy a stay at a hotel on the beach, the Hilton Garden Inn Daytona Beach Airport can make for an excellent base for racing fans. One of the better Daytona International Speedway hotels, the Hilton Garden Inn features a good restaurant, and some of its rooms offer excellent views of the track.
While you're not bound to hang around the Daytona Beach Airport for very long once you arrive, you might find yourself with some time on your hands while waiting for a departing flight. Should you be armed with a laptop computer, you can take advantage of the complimentary Wi-Fi or broadband internet access. Convenient and affordable parking is available at DBIA if you need it, and dropping off passengers curbside is also possible. As for getting out of the Daytona Beach International Airport once you arrive, you can always rent a car. Most of the major car rental agencies have desks here, so you can grab some wheels with ease. Having a car in Daytona Beach is a good thing, unless one of the major annual events is going on, as there is quite a lot to explore in the area. During big events like the Daytona 500, the traffic here is often a nightmare, in which case you might pass on renting a car.
In addition to renting a car, those who are in need of airport transportation services can also consider hopping on an airport shuttle. The Daytona Shuttle company offers airport shuttle service to most of the area hotels, and the rates are reasonable. You can also try Kings Transportation Shuttle or the Yellow Cab Company if you need transportation to and from the airport. Once you get settled in at your hotel or vacation rental, you might shoot on over to the Daytona Beach Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, which can be found at 126 E. Orange Avenue. It's a great place to learn about the area attractions, not to mention get dining and lodging tips.
As a side note, in addition to flying into the airport in Daytona Beach, visitors to the area can also consider landing at the Orlando International Airport. You can usually find cheaper rates on airfare when flying into Orlando, though it's hard to argue with the convenient location of the Daytona Beach Airport. Orlando is only about an hour's drive from Daytona Beach, so the commute won't be that bad if you fly into Orlando instead. Whether you fly into the airport in Daytona Beach or the airport in Orlando, plenty of great area attractions await you. There's something for everyone in central Florida, which is why it's one of the state's top regions to escape to.
