Houston tourism is popular throughout all seasons. Remarkably, there really isn’t a single perfect time to visit Houston. Houston is so diverse and offers so many different attractions that most can be enjoyed year-round. Yes, the weather does change and so do the temperatures, which makes a select few activities and goals better at certain times of the year, so depending on your plans and preferences, you may want to consider one time of the year over others.
Visitors with the desire to enjoy the beach along with some high temperatures might prefer Houston travel during the summer months. From as early as May through to September, Houston gets hot, with temperatures up in the eighties, nineties, and beyond. It gets so hot in fact that you need a waterfront location to really contend with it. Side trips to Galveston and other waterfront areas are the perfect way to beat the heat when you visit Houston in the summer, and to enjoy port cruises too. Note that the late summer months of July and August are the hottest and bring the promise of thunderstorms, severe humidity, and even hurricanes.
Houston tourism booms in both spring and fall, both excellent times to visit because of the mild temperatures. These two Houston seasons are ideal for exploring the many attractions in downtown Houston and other areas as well. Houston travel in spring or fall has many benefits, one being that a host of festivals and special events kick off in these seasons. Nearby Kemah is also a beautiful place to enjoy dining seaside in both spring and fall and Lake Conroe is packed with visitors.
Anytime of year is a good time to take in world-class museums, shopping, and tours in Houston. The theater district is another attraction featuring top live performances, plays, ballet, and more. The celebrated Houston Aquarium is a top family-based attraction and another hit at any time of the year. Day spas are a major draw for visitors and offer a lavish experience with no interruptions, whether spring, summer, fall, or winter.
The especially pleasant weather in spring and fall makes attractions like golf really quite perfect. Houston is home to an enormous number of championship golf courses, both public and private. For a golf vacation, check out one of Houston’s fine golf resorts. Exploring areas such as Rice Village and Traders Village are also ideal when it’s not too hot. Avoid these places like the plague in July and August or you’ll likely be a bit miserable from the humidity and heat.
Winter is another good time for Houston travel. If you’re contemplating when to go to Houston note that winter weather is mild, and only slightly cooler than spring and fall. There are no threats of harsh weather patterns and crowds aren’t as thick. In the winter Houston tourism isn’t as popular as spring, but still sees an ample number of visitors. Hotels generally offer some valuable vacation packages complete with choice deals on car rentals, tours, and flights.
If you can’t decide on when to visit Houston, taking a look at the city’s calender of events can help. There are a number of top festivals and events, including the International Festival and the Greek Festival, that perfectly showcase this multifaceted city. If there’s one common factor among Houstonians, it’s that they all like to celebrate just about everything! This is a great time to see the bright, dynamic side of Houston and join in on the excitement and action.
