Las Olas Fort Lauderdale has always been an important access road, but in recent times it has developed the beauty that attracts visitors today. Travelers can enjoy a day of shopping and nightlife at some of the finest establishments on Las Olas Boulevard in addition to paying a visit to other nearby attractions, such as the Riverwalk and Butterfly World. This attraction offers visitors to Fort Lauderdale the pleasant opportunity of combining urban activities such as shopping with the wonders of nature, including the award-winning beach at the end of Las Olas Blvd, the reason for which the lane was first constructed.
Historically, Las Olas Boulevard was an important road, as it was once the only way to reach the beach by land. Before Las Olas, which is Spanish for "the waves," the only way to get there was to take a boat; with the construction of a bridge and Las Olas Blvd, the first road to lead to the ocean, people had ready access to the beach, and while many others have been built since then, Las Olas Boulevard remains one of the most important, and with the enhancement of shops and evening venues, the popularity of this historic thoroughfare has only increased.
Shopping at Las Olas Fort Lauderdale is one of the main things to do on the boulevard. The shops are numerous, and some of the more unique establishments include Bijou & Color, a gemstone jeweler, and the Gourmet Farmer’s Market, where you will find plenty of unique items from handmade soaps, baskets, tropical plants, and of course, fresh fruits and vegetables. The Las Olas Chemist provides the charming atmosphere of the old-world apothecary in its décor along with a pharmacy and local bath and body products.
Evening entertainment is a highlight of Las Olas Fort Lauderdale, and there are numerous venues where visitors can enjoy the nightlife of the area. Some of the popular clubs include Off the Hookah, the Art Bar, and The Brick. Off the Hookah is a Middle Eastern lounge and bar with themed décor. Club-goers in the mood for a bit of hip hop can stop in at the Art Bar. For entertainment, watch people dance on the bars at The Brick, a rock joint on the boulevard.
While walking on Las Olas Boulevard could easily fill an entire day during a Fort Lauderdale vacation, there are plenty of other attractions nearby that visitors will also enjoy, particularly if they're interested in local history. The Riverwalk offers additional walking opportunities, and Bonnet House is a 1920s residence that is now a museum. For those interested in natural history or wildlife, Butterfly World is not too far away and offers the chance to see thousands of species of butterflies, as well as several birds.
Among the many delightful attractions in Fort Lauderdale, Las Olas Blvd provides history, charm, entertainment, and an excellent means of reaching the ocean for a bit of fun in the sun. For travelers with rental cars, driving to the area and parking is an option, but there are plenty of hotels within walking distance of both the beach and the boulevard, or you can rely on the city's public transportation system to get you where you want to go.
